Mikkey Halsted

Over the last 3 months I've been doing a lot of recording and tweaking of my upcoming project "Chicago: The Photo Album". This past month I have had the opportunity to get out and perform/preview a few of the records that will be on the project. It's a challenging process, because I really want this album to be a classic and represent the labor of love that has gone into the making of this project. I guess it's a good problem to have so many good records and need to narrow down a few. Anyway, here are two joints that will certainly be on the project. I am pleased to announce my next show this summer is with one of the most talented bands on the scene today, Hey Champ. If you  are not familiar with this talented trio then wipe the cold out of your eye and check out "Cold Dust Girl". I will be rocking verses to some of their songs, while they back me on some of my songs. It all goes down at the Sprite Green "Year of Succezz" event this Friday July 10th. You need to RSVP like yesterday. The line-up is extra fresh and features Haul and Mason spinning Mikkey Halsted/Hey Champ along with a performance by the Wale. The homey Shareef and J4 (4Management) along with the homey's at Bandit Productions have been cracking the whip to ensure that our mash up show is flawless.

I'm focused, my team is as strong as ever, I have a bunch of dope shows coming up and it's finally summer in the Chi. If you haven't already caught me live on u-stream then you are missing out on all the fun me and my u-stream family have been having. We will be broadcasting live this week from Soundscape Studios. I am putting the finishing touches on "The Photo Album", "The Last Shall Be First" and a whole host of other projects.

Helllooooo to all of my Uncrowned City residents!!!! I was in Sound Scape studio (All three rooms) last week working on a few projects including: a record for Scrap Dirtys' mix-tape, material for the upcoming UnCrowned City family mix-tape and listening to some new beats for a some ideas I have. Producer Pro, SC, Rob Bates and Big D beats all came in and blessed the UnCrowned King with some heat. Shouts to YP, Geno, Mike Kolar, Keyzz (my personal engineer) and the UnCrowned team, who were all building with me. In this video you can get a peep at how I go about constructing a record from the jump. I first try to find my patterns and pockets, then look for the appropirate words and finally look to perfect the flow and pronunciation/inflections. I've been at it a long time and it's funny how great beats will take over and tell me what to say if I stay true to the track. Song writing is truly a theraputic and amazing process. I am often amazed at what comes out when I am in a zone and go back and listen to certain records (Liquro Store, Israelite Gangsta etc.). Check me out ane enjoy.
